MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Liz Amici (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.) received the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's player of the year award, the WIAC announced today, highlighting the UW-Eau Claire volleyball team's conference recognition. In total, five Blugolds received conference honors, including three first-team selections.
Throughout the season, Amici maintained a .343 hitting percentage, the highest in the conference. She has racked up 346 kills to lead the Blugolds and was one of only two players in the conference to average at least one block each set. Amici also averaged 3.45 points each set for the fourth highest total in the conference. Amici currently ranks third on the Blugolds' career list with 360 block assists and 414 total blocks. Her 148 total blocks this season is tied for fifth on the school single-season chart. This is her second consecutive appearance on the All-WIAC first team.
Anne Satterlee (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) and Laura Slinger (Sr.-Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) also represented Eau Claire on the all-conference first team. Satterlee has tallied 282 kills on the year, the third-highest total for all Blugolds. She also has the second-most blocks for Eau Claire with 98.
Slinger joined Amici as the only two players in the conference to crack a .300 hitting percentage. Slinger is averaging .339 on the year, with 321 kills on 741 attempts. She has also made 74 blocks on the season.
Emily Neave (Jr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) received honorable mention recognition. Neave has accumulated the most assists in the conference with 1,340 total. She averages 10.47 assists each set, the second-best average in the conference.
Senior Jenny Burzynski (Sr.-Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd) represented the Blugolds on the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Members of the all-sportsmanship team are recognized for their superior display of sportsmanship throughout the season.
