Volleyball Delivers Win over Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – It took all five sets, but the UW-Eau Claire volleyball team picked up its second straight conference victory by defeating UW-Stevens Point 3-2 this evening.

Though the Blugolds claimed the first set of the night 25-18, the Pointers rallied to take back-to-back 25-23 set wins. In the critical fourth set, the Blugolds didn't capture the lead until a score of 16-15. The teams battled back and forth until Amy Bomgren (Jr.-Woodbury, Minn.) broke the 25-25 tie with two consecutive points to even up the series.

Eau Claire didn't waste any time in the deciding set. The Blugolds jumped out to an 8-6 lead before unleashing a streak of six unanswered points. Eau Claire captured the final set 15-7 to take the match victory.

Four Blugolds recorded over 10 kills on the night, led by Emily Zupon's (Sr.-Antigo, Wis./Antigo) 15 kill effort. Emily Neave (Jr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) and Lauren Sutherland (So.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) recorded a team-high 16 digs each. Neave also tallied 47 set assists for Eau Claire.

Eau Claire now owns a 2-0 conference record and stands an even 8-8 overall. Tomorrow, the Blugolds travel to UW-Whitewater for a conference match against the Warhawks. The match is set to begin at noon.
