WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team recorded its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss of the season to UW-Whitewater, falling 3-0 this afternoon.
The Blugolds stayed close to the Warhawks during each set, but couldn't pull ahead for the victory. Whitewater claimed all three sets 25-17, 25-20 and 25-21.
Liz Amici (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.) led the Blugolds in kills for the match. She recorded eight on 11 attempts, which boosted her hitting percentage to .636.
Emily Neave (Jr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) tallied a team-high 15 digs and also made 26 of the Blugolds' 28 set assists. Lauren Sutherland (So.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) and Kelly Schuh (So.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) also racked up 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
The loss drops Eau Claire to 8-9 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Whitewater improves to 10-4 on the year and 2-1 in WIAC play.
Next weekend, the Blugolds will travel to Iowa for the two-day Wartburg Tournament hosted by Wartburg College. The first match against Cornell College (Iowa) is set to begin at 4 p.m. Friday.
