Women's Golf Tied for Second after Round One of WIAC Championship

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team is currently tied for second place out of seven teams after round one of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship at Bull's Eye Country Club.

UW-Whitewater leads the field with 333 strokes while the Blugolds, along with UW-Stevens Point, are in second with 342 strokes. UW-Platteville is currently in fourth place with 359 strokes.

Blugold individuals finished very well today, holding three of the top five spots. Jamie Hauser (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) is tied for first in the 51-golfer field with 80 strokes (+8) while Maggie Lattery (Jr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) is tied for third (81) and Katie Ecker (So.-Hudson, Wis.) is in fifth (82). Rounding out the Blugold individuals, Katie Swift (Sr.-Onalaska, Wis.) is tied for 12th with 86 strokes.

Leading the group of Blugolds who's scores count toward the team score is Catherine Wagner (So.-Austin, Minn.), who is tied for third with 81 strokes.

Sara Mattes (Jr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) finished second for Eau Claire in 11th place with 85 strokes while Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.) is tied for 15th with 87. Lauren Gault (Jr.-Shorewood, Wis.) is tied for 21st overall with 89 strokes while last year's WIAC medalist, Katie Maurer (Jr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation), has 90 strokes for 24th place.

Round two of the three-day tournament will get underway at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Bull's Eye Country Club.
