Women's Golf Ties for 10th at Weather-Shortened Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (Blugolds.com) - A massive band of lightning storms forced the cancellation of Friday's final round at the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship, resulting in the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team finishing tied for 10th at Mission Inn Golf & Tennis Resort.

Because of round four's cancellation, results from day three are considered final due to NCAA by-laws. As such, the Blugolds finished with 1,016 strokes to tie with Olivet College (Mich.). The Blugolds have finished 10th or better at nationals in 10 of the last 11 seasons.

Methodist University (N.C.) claimed its 14th straight national title and 24th overall, winning with 966 strokes. Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) was second with 978 while Illinois Wesleyan University was third with 991.

Methodist senior Paige Caldwell of Hudson, Ohio won the individual title with a three-day total of 232 (+13) to give the Monarchs their sixth individual crown in the last seven years.

Catherine Wagner (So.-Austin, Minn.), who was tied for second after two rounds, finished tied for ninth place. Wagner came away with 243 strokes. Last year at nationals she tied for 14th.

Sara Mattes (Jr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) and Jamie Hauser (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead)  both tied for 49th place with 259 strokes while Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.)  tied for 54th with 260. Tied for 73rd with 267 strokes was Katie Maurer (Jr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation).
