Women's Golf Two Shots out of First at O'Brien National Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team is just two strokes off the lead after round one of the 2010 O'Brien National Invitational.

The tournament, one which features 10 of the top 13 ranked teams in NCAA Division III, is led by No. 1-ranked and 23-time defending national champion Methodist University (N.C.) with 316 strokes. DePauw University (Ind.) is in second place with 317 strokes and the third-ranked Blugolds are in third place with 318.

Leading after round one is Saint Mary University's Marin Beagley with 74 strokes.

Sara Mattes (Jr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) leads the Blugolds and is in second place with 75 strokes, tied with Allegheny's Courtney Klein.

Also for the Blugolds, Katie Maurer (Jr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) is tied for 12th with 80 strokes, Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.)is tied for 17th with 81, Catherine Wagner (So.-Austin, Minn.) is tied for 21st with 82 and Lauren Gault (Jr.-Shorewood, Wis.) is tied for 28th with 85.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow with the teams teeing off at 8 a.m. (Eastern).
