Women's Golf Takes Second at Home Invite

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The third-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's golf team is in second place out of 10 teams after round one of the UW-Eau Claire Spring Invitational at Wild Ridge Golf Course today.

The Blugolds shot 336 while Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), ranked fifth in the nation, led the field with 334 strokes. St. Olaf College (Minn.) is in third with 342. The Blugolds also had a second team competing and that group shot 353 for fifth place.

Leading the 58-golfer field was Katie Ecker (So.-Hudson, Wis.), golfing for Eau Claire's second team. She finished with 79 strokes (+6).

For the Blugolds' first team, Sara Mattes (Jr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) led the group after finishing with 80 strokes in second place. Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.) came in with 82 strokes, in a four-way tie for fourth place.

UPDATE (May 1, 9:55 a.m.) - Due to cold weather in the Eau Claire area, the final round of the tournament has been cancelled. The above results are final.
