HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (Blugolds.com) - The third-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's golf team is currently in 11th place after the first round of the 2011 NCAA Championship at Mission Inn Golf & Tennis Resort.

The Blugolds finished with 346 strokes while top-ranked Methodist University (N.C.), seeking its 14th straight NCAA title, leads the 19-team field with 318. Fifth-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) is second with 322 while eighth-ranked St. Mary's College (Ind.) is in third with 325 strokes.

Catherine Wagner (So.-Austin, Minn.) finished the day strong, tying for sixth with 79 strokes (+6). A season ago at nationals she tied for 14th place.

Also for Eau Claire, Jamie Hauser (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) shot 68 (tied for 41st), Katie Maurer (Jr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) had 90 strokes (tied for 66th) and Sara Mattes (Jr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) and Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.) both finished with 91 (tied for 71st).

In the 101-golfer field, four individuals are tied for the top spot with 77 strokes each. Two of the golfers are from Methodist University.

Tomorrow the Blugolds will begin teeing off at 8:00 a.m. (Eastern).
