Women's Golf Moves into First at WIAC Championship

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team recorded a tournament-low score of 327 strokes and moved in to first place after two rounds of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship at Bull's Eye Country Club today.

The Blugolds, who were tied for third yesterday, have 669 strokes overall. UW-Stevens Point is in second with 674 strokes while UW-Whitewater is in third with 676.

Catherine Wagner (So.-Austin, Minn.) duplicated her round one score of 81 today and is now in first place with 162 strokes overall (+18).

In second place is Sara Mattes (Jr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) with 163 strokes while Maggie Lattery (Jr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern), golfing as an individual for Eau Claire, is tied for third place with 164 strokes.

Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.) is fifth overall after finishing with 79 strokes today for 166 overall while Katie Maurer (Jr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) is in 25th place with 179 strokes. Lauren Gault (Jr.-Shorewood, Wis.) finished with a two-day total of 183, tied for 30th.

Other Blugold individuals golfing today were Jamie Hauser (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) (tie-9th, 169 strokes), Katie Ecker (So.-Hudson, Wis.) (11th place, 170 strokes) and Katie Swift (Sr.-Onalaska, Wis.) (tie-19th place, 175 strokes).

The championship will conclude Sunday, with a start time of 10 a.m. set at Bull's Eye Country Club.
