Women's Golf Does Well in Spring Opener

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team opened the spring portion of its season at the 2011 Small College Desert Classic, hosted by Carleton College (Minn.) at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Arizona today.

The UW-Eau Claire Blue team took second while the Gold team was third. The University of St. Thomas won the event and Carleton finished fourth.

The meet was scored using a modified stableford format. Point totals were accumulated using the following method: 1 point-bogey; 2 points-par; 4 points-birdie; 6 points-eagle

The Tommies won with 94 points while the Blugolds' Blue team scored 93.

Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.) led the Blugolds with 26 points, just one point behind meet medalist Cassy Norton from St. Thomas.

Eight other Blugolds competed in today's event. 

The Blugolds will be in action again in a couple weeks when they head to Waverly, Iowa for the Wartburg College Spring Invitational, which takes place April 9-10.
