Women's Golf Ties for Fifth at SMSU Mustang Invite

MARSHALL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team tied for fifth place out of 13 teams at the NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State University Mustang Invitational at Marshall Golf Club today.

The tournament was condensed to just one day in which 36 holes were played, after Saturday was cancelled due to a wet course.

The Blugolds finished with 639 strokes to tie with Division II Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.). Augustana (S.D.) won the invite with 617 strokes while Hawaii-Hilo took second with 626 strokes. Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), the only other Division III team competing, took third with 627 strokes.

Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.) led the Blugolds with 155 strokes (+13) to tie for seventh place in the 81-golfer field. Randi Ono from Hawaii-Hilo and Gustavus' Katie Schenfeld each finished with 150 strokes for the top spot.

Katie Maurer (Jr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) finished tied for 20thplace after shooting 160 while Lauren Gault (Jr.-Shorewood, Wis.) had 162 strokes to tie for 24th place.

Sara Mattes (Jr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) and Catherine Wagner (So.-Austin, Minn.) finished with 164 strokes apiece to tie for 30th.

Golfing as individuals today were Maggie Lattery (Jr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) and Jamie Hauser (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), who tied for 20th and 39th, respectively.

The Blugolds will now prepare for the three-day WIAC Championship, which will take place October 8-10. The tournament will be contested at Bullseye Country Club in Wisconsin Rapids.
