Women's Golf Earns All-American, All-Region Honors

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (Blugolds.com) - Three members of the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team recently received recognition from the National Golf Coaches Association for the 2010-11 season, including an All-American Honorable Mention award for Sara Mattes (Jr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central).

With her All-American Honorable Mention status, Mattes joined just eight other Blugolds in team history to receive All-American honors. This season, Mattes was crowned the WIAC individual champion. She averaged 81.7 strokes in 20 rounds of play, which tied for first on the team.

The NGCA also recognized Mattes, Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.) and Catherine Wagner (So.-Austin, Minn.) as members of the Region 3 All-Region team. This is the second consecutive year Swift and Wagner have received All-Region honors.

Swift also led the Blugolds in lowest stroke average with 81.7. She placed in the top-10 individual standings in all but two events this season.

Wagner, last year's NGCA freshman of the year, averaged 81.8 strokes per round for third on the team. She finished a season-high third at the Wartburg Spring Invite and led the team at nationals by tying for ninth overall.
