Women's Golf Ties for Third at IWU Spring Fling

NORMAL, Ill. (Blugolds.com) - After round one was rained out yesterday, the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team tied for third place out of 20 teams at the 2011 Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Fling at Ironwood Golf Course today.

The Blugolds, who are ranked fourth in the nation, recorded 320 strokes to tie DePauw University, the nation's second-ranked team. North Central College won with 315 strokes while William Woods University was second with 319.

Sara Mattes (Jr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) led the Blugolds, tying for fourth place with 77 strokes. Amber Conrad of Olivet won medalist honors in the 109-golfer field with 74 strokes.

Tying for 10th place was Catherine Wagner (So.-Austin, Minn.) as she finished with 79 while Katie Maurer (Jr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) and Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.) were part of an 11-way tie for 24th place after shooting an 82.

Next Friday and Saturday the Blugolds will compete at the Carleton College Spring Invitational in Northfield, Minn.
