Men's Golf Honors Four with Team Awards

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team distributed its annual team awards to four of its members, head coach Jim Maguire recently announced.

Loren Churness (Sr.-Durand, Wis.) and Jamie Krula (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) received recognition as the team's Co-Most Valuable Players. Churness was one of three Blugolds to average 75.9 strokes, the lowest average on the team. Churness also earned the most top-five finishes on the team with four. His highest finish came at the Aurora/MSOE fall invitational when he tied for first.

Krula led the Blugolds at the NCAA Division III nationals, tying for the team's highest individual finish of 50th. Over the course of the season, Krula also averaged 75.9 over 23 rounds. He earned two top-five finishes and four top 10s.

Jimmy Hutchings (Jr.-Hudson, Wis.) and Ben Brooks (Fr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) also earned team honors. Hutchings was named the team's Most Improved. Hutchings, who also picked up the Most Improved in 2008-09, completed 18 rounds and averaged 76.7 strokes. He finished in the top five once and in the top 10 twice this season.

Brooks earned the Freshman of the Year award. Brooks played in 19 rounds and averaged 77.4 strokes on the season. He earned one top-five finish by tying for fourth at the Edgewood College Spring Invitational.
