Men's Golf in Third at MSOE Invite

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - After the first round of competition, the UW-Eau Claire men's golf team is third out of the 15 teams competing at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Fall Invitational.

The Blugolds' round one score totaled 304 strokes, 20 above par for the course. Carthage College leads the event with a sum of 297 strokes while Edgewood College trails by one stroke. Host Milwaukee School of Engineering is fourth with 311 strokes.

Loren Churness (Sr.-Durand, Wis.) had the best round for the Blugold team, as he shot a 72 to tie for second place and is just two strokes out of the lead.

Three other Blugolds placed into the first-day top 20. Jamie Krula (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) tied for 10th with a count of 76 while Tim McCormick (So.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) and Jake Erickson (Fr.-Chaska, Minn./Academy Of Holy Angels) tied for 16th place after tallying 78 strokes. Ben Brooks (Fr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) completed Eau Claire's top five after shooting an 83 to tie for 38th place.

The final round of the fall invitational will begin at 7 a.m. tomorrow.
