Men's Golf Fourth After First Day at Classic

ELK RIVER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - After the first day of competition, the UW-Eau Claire men's golf team is tied for fourth out of the 18 teams competing at the Gustavus Adolphus Twin Cities Classic at the Elk River Country Club in Elk River, Minn.

The Blugold golfers combined for 297 strokes, nine over par, to tie for fourth with Bemidji State University (Minn.). Carthage College (Wis.) leads the field with a score of 289, just one stroke ahead of second place St. Cloud State University (Minn.).

Loren Churness (Sr.-Durand, Wis.) leads the Blugold golfers after shooting a 69 – three under par – and tying for fifth in the standings.  Jamie Krula (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi), Jake Erickson (Fr.-Chaska, Minn./Academy Of Holy Angels) and Jake Brookshaw (Jr.-River Falls, Wis.) all tied for 28th place with a score of 76 while Ben Brooks (Fr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) rounded out the Blugold team at 53rd place with 78 total strokes.

The second round of the Twin Cities Classic will begin at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow morning at the Links at Northfork in Ramsey, Minn.
