Men's Golf Finishes Second at Saint John's Invite

SARTELL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team, which led after round one of the 2010 Saint John's Fall Invitational, dropped back one spot to take second out of 21 teams today.

The Blugolds, who also finished second last season at the invite, finished with 605 strokes. Saint John's University (Minn.), which trailed the Blugolds by one after yesterday's round, won the tournament with 597 strokes. The University of Manitoba (Canada) finished third with 609.

Saint John's Casey Vangsness, who tied two others with a round-low of 71 today, won medalist honors with 144 strokes.

Tim McCormick (So.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) led the Blugolds with 147 strokes as he took fourth place overall. Jamie Krula (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi), who had a tournament-low score of 70 yesterday, struggled today and finished with 150 strokes, tying for seventh.

Ryan Grip (Sr.-Wausau, Wis./East) tied for 11th with 151 while Loren Churness (Sr.-Durand, Wis.) and Jimmy Hutchings (Jr.-Hudson, Wis.) tied for 52nd overall with 159 strokes.

Next up, the Blugolds host the 2010 Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Collegiate Invitational. The tournament will start next Sunday and will conclude Monday. Both days will be contested at the Eau Claire Country Club.
