Men's Golf Victorious at MSOE Invitational

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team captured its first victory of the season during the final round of the Milwaukee School of Engineering Fall Invitational.

The Blugolds overcame a seven stroke deficit and jumped two spots in the standings to snatch the lead away from round one leader Carthage College. Eau Claire finished the round with 295 strokes and a two-day total of 599, which topped Carthage by one stroke.  Host Milwaukee School of Engineering finished the invite in third place with a total of 613 strokes.

The Eau Claire players as individuals also made huge leaps in the player standings, with all finishing in the top 20. Loren Churness (Sr.-Durand, Wis.) tied for first place by shooting a 73 for a two-day total of 145.

Jamie Krula (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) and Jake Erickson (Fr.-Chaska, Minn./Academy Of Holy Angels) finished fifth and ninth, racking up respective 149 and 152 shot totals. Tim McCormick (So.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) brought home 14th with 155 strokes while Ben Brooks (Fr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) tallied 158 strokes for 19th after sitting in 38th place yesterday.

The Blugolds' next opportunity will be this weekend's three-day Gustavus Adolphus Twin Cities Classic. The tournament begins on Saturday and concludes on Monday in St. Peter, Minn.
