Men's Golf Teams Near Front at Home Invitational

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - After recent flooding relocated the event to Wild Ridge Golf Course, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's golf teams sit in fourth and fifth places after one day of competition at the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Collegiate Invitational.

The Blugolds recorded a total of 305 strokes, 17 over par to put them fourth out of the 13 teams competing in the event. Eau Claire's second team ended the day just five strokes behind in fifth place. UW-Stout led the field with an even 300 strokes, 12 over par.

Ben Brooks (Fr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.), playing for Eau Claire's second team, tied for the lead in the individual standings after shooting par, or 72 strokes, for the course. First-teamer Loren Churness (Sr.-Durand, Wis.) totaled 73 strokes on the day, to tie him with third, while Ryan Grip (Sr.-Wausau, Wis./East) and Jamie Krula (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) each recorded 76 strokes, tying them for 15th place.

Tomorrow, the teams will compete in the final round of the tournament at 10:40 a.m. at New Richmond Golf Course in New Richmond, Wis.
