Men's Golf Takes Fifth at Saint John's Spring Invite

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - After sitting in third place following round one, the UW-Eau Claire men's golf team dropped two spots to finish fifth out of 16 teams at the 2011 Saint John's Spring Invitational today.

At the three-round tournament, the Blugolds shot 887 as they took fifth. Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) won with 864 strokes while Saint John's University (Minn.) was second with 870 and St. Cloud State University (Minn.) was third with 878.

Saint John's Andy Stahlman took medalist honors. He tied two others with 215 strokes (+1) but won for having the lowest third-round score of 68.

Jimmy Hutchings (Jr.-Hudson, Wis.) led the Blugolds as he tied for ninth with 220 strokes.

Three other Blugolds finished in the top 25. Tim McCormick (So.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) tied for 15th, Jamie Krula (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) tied for 17th and Loren Churness (Sr.-Durand, Wis.) tied for 25th.

The Blugolds will wrap up the regular season next Friday when they travel to Middleton for the Edgewood College Spring Quadrangular at Bishop's Bay.
