Men's Golf Finishes 13th at NCAA Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team finished strong at the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship, moving up one spot to finish in 13th place at Grandover Resort & Conference Center today.

The Blugolds had their best round on the final day with 297 strokes. Combined with scores of 299, 300 and 318, Eau Claire finished with 1,214 strokes at the four-day championship. The Blugolds' 13th-place finish was their best since the 2007 season when they took ninth. A season ago the Blugolds finished 27th.

Greensboro College (N.C.) won its second title in school history, finishing with 1,167 strokes. Illinois Wesleyan University was second with 1,173 while last year's national champion, Methodist University (N.C.), Saint John's University (Minn.) and Texas Lutheran University all tied for third with 1,180.

Chris Morris of Centre College (Ky.) claimed medalist honors with 274 strokes, 14 under par.

Leading the Blugolds were Jamie Krula (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) and Tim McCormick (So.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) with 305 strokes. The pair finished tied for 50th overall.

Jimmy Hutchings (Jr.-Hudson, Wis.) finished tied for 57th with 307 strokes while Loren Churness (Sr.-Durand, Wis.) had 310 to tie for 65th and Ben Brooks (Fr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) finished with 311 to tie for 69th.
