EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The No. 9 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team hosted No. 18 University of St. Thomas at the 7th Annual Sandy Schumacher Tournament (presented by Nike/Eastbay) on Friday night, with the Blugolds taking the match by a score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-17).

Box Score

The Blugolds came out strong, thanks to a fast start by Arianna Barrett (So. – Lakeville, MN/North). The sophomore tallied five of the teams 11 kills in the opening set, leading UW-Eau Claire to a 25-20 win.

Barrett kept it up in set two, racking up six more kills to increase her hitting percentage to .476.

In the final set, Eau Claire jumped out to another early lead. The Tommies would battle back but the Blugolds would be too much as they took the final set by a score of 25-17 to secure the win.

Barrett finished the night with a match-high 16 kills and hitting .500. Kendra Baierl (Jr. – Marshfield, WI/Columbus Catholic) also had a solid night for the Blugolds, adding nine kills and hitting .667.

Abbey Pederson (So. – Canby, MN) recorded 32 assists in the win while Taylor Scalia (Jr. – Lake Elmo, MN/Stillwater) had a match-high 14 digs.

Eau Claire will finish the tournament Saturday with a matchup with No. 19 Carthage College at 11 a.m. and Gustavus Adolphus College (receiving votes) at 3 p.m.
