Volleyball tallies two more wins

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team finished the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament with two more wins on Saturday after defeating Millikin 3-0 and Augustana 3-1.

In their first match of the day, Eau Claire took down Millikin by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-17. Eau Claire had a slow start but would heat up to hit an impressive .406 in the third set.

Arianna Barrett (So.-Lakeville, MN/North) led the Blugolds with 11 kills, hitting .500 percent while Makenzie Bachmann (Jr.-Chaska, MN) chipped in 10 kills and had a game-high 13 digs. Krista Meyer (Jr.-Germantown, WI) hit .778 with seven kills to go along with nine blocks with Abbey Pederson (So.-Canby, MN) recording 26 assists.

In their final match of the day, Eau Claire won the first set 25-18 but dropped the second by a score of 16-25. The Blugolds would not be denied, however, as they came back to take the final sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-21.

Kendra Baierl (Jr.-Marshfield, WI/Columbus Catholic) paced the Blugold offense with 12 kills and also tallied three block assists. Bachmann once again led the defense, this time with 19 digs while Pederson had 37 assists.

Barrett and Sarah Kuchcik (Fr.-Naperville, IL/North) also had 11 kills apiece while Taylor Scalia (Jr.-Lake Elmo, MN/Stillwater) chipped in 18 digs in the win.

In addition, Barrett and Baierl were named to the All-Tournament Team.
