Volleyball sweeps George Fox at Auggie Invite

Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The No. 4-ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball closed out their time on the road on Saturday as they played their final match of the Auggie Invite against George Fox University. The Blugolds were able to bounce back in a 3-0 sweep to end the tournament with a 2-1 record.

The first set was dominated early by Eau Claire with two separate four-point and five-point runs against the Bruins. The Blugolds recorded three of their eight service aces for the match in the beginning set to set the tempo.

Arianna Barrett (So. – Lakeville, MN/North) added to her team leading 56 kills with another ten of her own today to increase her total to 66. Barrett recorded 36 of those kills during the Auggie Invite.

Leah Witzel (Jr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) was credited with 17 assists in the matchup to bring her season to 146, which is also a team-high.  

In the final two sets, the Blugolds had to come from behind to regain control of the match. Eau Claire also reached a hitting percentage of .275, the highest recorded so far this season.

In addition, Abby Volk (So. – Wilmar, MN) earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after finishing the weekend hitting .239 and recording 18 kills.

The Blugolds will take a five day break before they host the 7th annual Sandy Schumacher Tournament at home in the McPhee Center. Eau Claire will face St. Thomas on Friday, September 13th and will face Carthage College and Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, September 14th. Game times are 7:00 PM, 11:00 AM, and 3:00 PM, respectively.
