Slattery wins 10K at WIAC Championships

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire track and field teams opened the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championship (presented by Culver's) on Friday, with the Blugold women in second and the men in sixth.

The UW-Eau Claire women tallied 47.50 points on day one, lead by Samantha Slattery (Sr. – Waunakee, WI) first place finish in the 10K with a time of 36.42.20 to earn 10 points for the Blugolds. Hannah Lamack (So. – Kewaunee, WI) tallied another six points with a third place finish in the steeplechase (11:28.98) and Karen Gomez-Ruiz (Sr. – Chatfield, MN) added another after placing eighth (11:36.81).

Allison Weiker (Fr. – Roseville, MN) was the WIAC runner-up in the pole vault (11-10) while Tommie Brenner (Sr. – Reedsburg, WI) finished fourth (11-4.25). Ashley Agrimson (So. – Peterson, MN/Rushford-Peterson) also earned a second place finish in the long jump after posting a mark of 19-3.5 and Lexi LeFever Fr. – Hudson, WI) placed fourth in the event with a mark of 18-1.75.

Also turning in strong performances in the prelims and earning spots in the finals were:

100m hurdles - Brenner - 14.73

100m - Amy Chen (So. – Mayville, WI) – 12.34, Agrimson – 12.48, Logan Fahey (Jr. – Belleville, WI) –  12.51 and Kady Kochendorfer (Fr. – Hudson, WI) – 12.55

200m – Fahey - 25.83 and Kochendorfer - 25.87

400m - Glory Hecker (Jr. – Stone Lake, WI/Hayward Center) – 58.89, Lizzy Keena (So. – Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln) – 59.38 and Sasha Riley (Jr. – Fairmont, MN) – 59.75

800m - Morgan Marek (Sr. – Muskego, WI) - 2:14.75 and Hanna Reed (Sr. – Fort Atkinson, WI) - 2:15.59

In the heptathlon, Megan Wallace (So.-Burlington, WI) currently sits in second (2,794) while Marin Munos (So. – Oswego, IL/Aurora West) is fifth (2,454)

On the men's side, Kyler Lueck (Germantown, WI/ WI Lutheran) set a new WIAC record in the 800m prelims, clocking in at 1:50.72 which also breaks his NCAA Division III-leading mark (1:51.23) and just missing the facility record.

Anthony Dupont (Sr. – Mendota Heights, MN/Henry Sibley) earned points for Eau Claire in the 10K, taking sixth place with a time of 31:22.83 while Alex Winn (Jr. – Kingston, WA) was seventh in the steeplechase (9:27.68).

Dylan Cooper (Jr. – Holmen, WI) leads the field in the decathlon after day one (3,578) while Jordan Lacey (So. – Greenville, WI/St. Mary Central) is third (3,459), Abraham Schroedl (So. – De Forest, WI) fourth (3,443) and Jed Lorenz (So. – Osseo, WI/Eleva-Strum) seventh (3,155).

KJ Munn (Jr. – Bayport, MN/St. Croix Prep) had a strong day as well, claiming a spot in the 200m (22.21) and 400m (48.17) finals.
