Lueck Wins 800-Meter at the Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – Members of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire track and field teams competed at the annual Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday. David Kornack (Sr. – Edgar, WI) led the way for the Blugolds on Friday, while it was Kyler Lueck (Germantown, WI/ WI Lutheran) stealing the show on Saturday.

Results

Competing against student-athletes from all NCAA divisions, it was Kyler Lueck (Germantown, WI/ WI Lutheran) who stole the show on Saturday. The junior won the 800-meter run in a time of 1:51.23. Lueck out-ran runners from all divisions including the second place finisher from division I Purdue. Lueck's time will lead the nation in NCAA division III and will be first in the WIAC.

Yesterday, Kornack became the first-ever Division III athlete to win the shot put. The senior and DIII indoor national champ won the event with a toss of 19.38m (63-7). The mark is the seventh best in NCAA Division III history and makes Kornack only the third athlete to surpass 63 feet in the outdoor season. Kornack also placed 15th overall in the discus with a throw of 48.97m.

Also turning in strong performances yesterday was the men's 4x100-relay team of Adam Lembke (So. – Waukesha, WI/West), Arik Skifstad(Fr. – Eau Claire, WI/North), Hunter Henk (Jr. – Beldenville, WI/River Falls) and KJ Munn (Jr. – Bayport, MN/St. Croix Prep) who were seventh (42.29) after the prelims  while the 4x400 team of Munn, Henk, Skifstad and Brandon Christnovich (Sr. – Holmen, WI) were 13th in the prelims with a time of 3:14.11.

Erica Oawster (Sr. – Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) lead the Blugold women, finishing 11th in the discus with a throw of 46.57m (152-9). The women's 4x200 relay also made a strong showing finishing 12th overall. The relay team made up of Tommie Brenner (Sr. – Reedsburg, WI), Ashley Agrimson  (So. – Peterson, MN/Rushford-Peterson), Kady Kochendorfer (Fr. – Hudson, WI), and Lizzy Keena (So.-Wisconsin Rapids, WI/ Lincoln) finished with a finals time of 1:43.93. In addition, the women's 4x400 relay finished 21st, while the 4x100 relay finished 31st.
