NEW ORLEANS (Blugolds.com) – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the Regional Athlete of the Year Awards for the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Season, with four Blugolds receiving honors in their respective roles.
Kyler Lueck (Sr. – Germantown, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) received the Midwest Regional Track Athlete of the Year award with national rankings in the 800m (1st), Distance Medley Relay (3rd), and the one-mile run (4th). He is the second Blugold since 2006 to win the award joining Thurgood Dennis who won it in 2014. Lueck was also named the 2020 WIAC Track Performer of the Year.
Dylan Cooper (Sr. – Holmen, WI) was awarded the Midwest Regional Field Athlete of the Year. His performance in the heptathlon broke the facility and WIAC records at the WIAC Championships with 5,441 points which also tied the all- time NCAA record. He joins fellow Blugold alumni, Brandon Zarnoth (2016) and Alex Mess (2014), in being the only Blugolds to win the award since 2006.
Head Coach Chip Schneider was named the 2020 Midwest Regional Coach of the Year. This is Coach Schneider's first time receiving this award and has 11 athletes competing at the NCAA National Championship Meet this week.
Assistant Coach Sarah Glidden was another Blugold receiving top regional honors by being awarded the Midwest Regional Assistant Coach of the Year. Glidden, a former NCAA Indoor National Champion, joined the coaching staff in 2018 with a focus in the decathlon and heptathlon.
