Lueck, Cooper and Weaver earn WIAC honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its award recipients for the 2020 men's indoor track & field season based on voting by the league coaches.

The Blugolds claimed three of the five honors, with Kyler Lueck (Sr. – Germantown, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) being named Track Performer of the Year, Dylan Cooper (Sr. -Holmen, WI) earning Field Performer of the Year and Marcus Weaver (Fr. - Lewiston, MN/Lewiston-Altura) earning co-Newcomer of the Year.

Lueck is the third Blugold to receive the award, joining Jason Finch (1998) and Thurgood Dennis (2012-14). Lueck won the 800-meter run and one-mile run with times of 1:51.80 and 4:10.03, respectively, at the WIAC Championship and his time in the one-mile run is the best in the WIAC this season. In addition, Lueck set the nation's top mark in the 800m this year, clocking in at 1:50.05 at the Iowa State Classic, competing as the only Division III athlete at the in the field.
 
Cooper is the fourth Blugold to secure the distinction, joining Sam Johnson (2009), Brandon Zarnoth (2014) and Alex Mess (2016). He won the heptathlon with 5,441 points – a mark that not only established a conference meet record and facility record, is also tied for the best total in NCAA Division III history.
 
Weaver is currently ranked second in NCAA Division III in the heptathlon and 15th in the high jump. He placed third in the heptathlon at the WIAC Championship. A Newcomer of the Year is defined as a student-athlete who used his first season of participation in men's indoor track & field this season.
