Men's Tennis Picks up Two Wins in Iowa

DUBUQUE, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team secured two wins today in Iowa, defeating Loras College 9-0 to open the day and the University of Dubuque 6-3 to end the day.

Three Blugolds finished singles competition undefeated for the day.

Florent Marco (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), Joey Minear (Fr.-Oronoco, Minn./Rochester Century) and Joe Meier (So.-Hutchinson, Minn.) all went 3-0 in singles play.

Marco won 6-2, 6-4 against Loras and 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 against Dubuque in the No. 3 spot.

At No. 4, Minear won 6-2, 6-2 facing Loras and 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 against Dubuque.

In the No. 5 spot, Meier won 6-0, 6-1 against Loras and 6-1, 6-1 facing Dubuque.

In doubles play, two groups of Blugolds finished 2-0.

At No. 2, Meier and Ryan Vande Linde (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won 8-1 and 9-7 in the respective matches while David Stingley (Jr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and Michael Roden (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won 8-3 facing both schools in the No. 3 spot.

Eau Claire is now 9-2 on the season and have won eight straight matches.

Next Saturday, the Blugolds will be in Saint Peter, Minn. for two more competitions. They will face Gustavus Adolphus College at 9 a.m. and will follow with a dual against Augustana (S.D.) at noon.
