Men's Tennis Splits in First Competitions of 2012

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team won once and lost once in its first competitions of 2012 Saturday.

The Blugolds opened the day coming up short 6-3 to Coe College (Iowa) but followed with an 8-1 win over Westminster College (Mo.) to complete the trip to Iowa.

In singles play, two Blugolds won both of their matches.

At No. 6 singles, Joe Meier (So.-Hutchinson, Minn.) opened the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over his Coe opponent while completing the day winning 6-0, 6-0 against Westminster.

In the No. 3 spot, Ryan Vande Linde (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won 7-5, 7-5 to start the day against Coe and the followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Westminster.

On the doubles side, the No. 1 duo of Chris Kuna (Sr.-Edina, Minn.) and Joey Minear (Fr.-Oronoco, Minn./Rochester Century) went 2-0 on the day. They defeated their Coe opponents 8-3 before picking up an 8-3 over their Westminster opponents.

Next Friday, the Blugolds will face Carthage College in Winona, Minn. before returning home to host Northwestern College (Minn.) and Simpson College (Iowa) Saturday.
