Men's Tennis Finishes Weekend 2-1

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – After narrowly falling 5-4 Friday night in Winona, Minn. to Carthage College, the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team picked up two victories on the Ade Olson Indoor Courts in the McPhee Physical Education Center today.

Friday, three Blugolds won singles matches while also winning in the No. 3 doubles spot.

Saturday, the Blugolds only fell at No. 2 singles against Northwestern College (Minn.) as they went on to win 8-1. Against Simpson College (Iowa), the Blugolds won 9-0.

The Blugolds shook up their singles lineup throughout the weekend as no one played in the same position more than twice.

Joey Minear (Fr.-Oronoco, Minn./Rochester Century) was the lone Blugold to win all three of his singles matches. In the No. 4 spot against Carthage, he won 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 Friday. Saturday, he opened with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 3 spot against Northwestern and closed the day at No. 1 with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over his Simpson opponent.

Eau Claire also shuffled its lineups in doubles play but the Blugolds came out on top each time in the No. 3 spot.

Florent Marco (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Michael Roden (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won 8-6 Friday while Ben Robertson (Jr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and David Stingley (Jr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) won twice Saturday, 8-3 against Northwestern and 8-0 against Simpson.

The Blugolds are now 3-2 on the season.

Next Saturday, the Blugolds will be at St. Cloud State, Minn. for a competition that begins at noon.
