EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Eau-Claire Women's Soccer Team returned home to continue conference play as they hosted the UW-River Falls Falcons. The Blugolds were strong on both sides of the ball, putting together a complete performance and a 4-0 victory over River Falls.
Eau Claire wasted no time in establishing offensive intensity as Elise Pinewski (So.- Anoka, MN) blasted the ball into the opposing goal with her right foot off a cross from Katlyn Byhre (So.- St. Michael, MN) in the 5th minute. Less than 10 minutes later Pinewski would get her 2nd goal of the game off a shot to the far-right side of the goal and past the keeper's reach for 2-0 lead. The Blugolds wouldn't stop there as at the 27-minute mark, Lola Ruff (Jr.- St. Louis Park, MN) earned her first goal of the season off a quick pass in the box from Amanda Iverson (So.- La Crescent, MN) to send a laser of a shot past the UWRF keeper from point blank range. Iverson also earned her first assist of the year off the score. The Blugolds dominated possession to take away scoring opportunities from the visitor and went into the half up 3-0.
UWEC remained relentless coming out of the break as Molly Henderson (So.- Duluth, MN) would add another goal to the Blugolds tally off a turnaround pass from Pinewski for Henderson to fire the ball into the right side of the net for the score. The Eau Claire defense locked down the visiting opponent and did not give up a single shot the whole game. The Home team's offense was the opposite as Eau Claire put up 21 shots in complete team 4-0 win.
Pinewski now leads the UW- Eau Claire Women's Soccer Team in points with 16 and is tied in first for the most goals with 7.
The Blugolds (10-5-1) WIAC (4-2) have their final road game of the season against St. Norbert College for a non-conference matchup on Sunday, October 23rd. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00pm.
