Eau Claire’s First Half Woes too Much to Overcome

WHITEWATER, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Eau-Claire women's soccer team went back on the road to face their conference opponent the UW-Whitewater Warhawks on Saturday evening. A quick 3-0 run by the home team would prove to be enough to beat Eau Claire as the Blugolds fell 3-1.

Box Score

Eau Claire struggled to maintain possession in the first 45 as the Warhawks dominated in all phases of the game. The Blugold defense would remain tough until 35th minute where the home team would put together 3 goals within the next 3 minutes. The teams would go into half with Eau Claire down 3-0.

The Blugolds would change up the pace in the second half as they regained possession in the middle of the field, allowing the offense more scoring opportunities off corner kicks and through passes. In the 74th Minute, Sydney Spencer (Jr.- Hudson, WI) would fire the ball to the low right post off a cross pass from Emma Stange (Sr.- Andover, MN) for the score and finally break through the opposing defense. Eau Claire would get more opportunities, but the Blugolds would come up short 3-1 against their conference opponent.

The Blugolds (8-5-1) WIAC (2-2) will end their road stretch as they will battle UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday, October 19th. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00pm.
