Women’s Soccer Ends Season at UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The third-seeded UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team gave second-seed UW-Oshkosh all they could handle but a late goal was the difference as the Titans held on for a 1-0 win here tonight at J.J. Keller Field.

The loss snapped the Blugolds' four-game winning streak and ends their season with an overall record of 8-10-2.  The Titans, now 11-7-1, will advance to play top-seed UW-Whitewater for the WIAC Tournament Championship on Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, both teams continued their scoreless ways as neither team scored for the first 35 minutes of the second half.  The Titans' Rachel Elliot scored at 80:59 from five yards out off a cross and the Blugolds were unable to answer.

Eau Claire was outshot 15-7 by Oshkosh.  The Blugolds were whistled for 11 fouls compared to seven for the Titans.  Oshkosh held a slight 3-2 edge on corner kicks.

Tara Dennehy (Jr.-Eugene, OR/Churchill) led the Blugolds with three shot attempts followed by Caroline Henderson (Jr.-Duluth, MN/East) who finished with two shot attempts.

Goalie Emily Byal (So.-Eagle, WI/Palmyra-Eagle) saved five shots allowing just one goal in the loss.  Her record for the season stands at 3-2.
