Soccer Unable to Overcome Weather, Hamline

ST.PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – Battling through a 44-minute lightning delay the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team was unable to score in its season opener as the Blugolds fell at Hamline University 1-0 at the Pat Paterson Fields.

Results

The lone goal of the came at the 21:21 mark when Hamline's Grace Nichols reached the back of the net giving the Pipers a 1-0 lead.  Tara Dennehy (Jr.-Eugene, Ore.) took four of the  Blugolds six shots, one taken on goal.  Hamline outshot the Blugolds 8-6.  Five of Hamline's shots were on goal compared to three for Eau Claire.

Rachel Griffiths (So.-Waunakee, WI) played all 90 minutes in goal stopping four of five shots.

Up next the Blugolds will look to earn their first victory of the season when they travel to Arden Hills, Minnesota to take on Bethel University.  The game is scheduled for Wednesday, September 3 with a 4 p.m. start.
