Women’s Soccer Battles Back In a 3-3 Tie

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – Down 3-1 with 32 minutes remaining in regulation, the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team scored two unanswered goals to force overtime where the game ended in a 3-3 tie here today at the Ona Orth Complex.

Eau Claire struck early as Sami Matuszak (Fr.-Green Bay, WI/Preble) scored her first career goal at 6:22 giving the Blugolds a 1-0.  Bethel fired six shots but was held scoreless by the Blugold defense in the first half.

The second half would be much different as both teams combined to score five goals.  The Royals scored three goals in just over 10 minutes from 48:40 to 58:49 giving Bethel a 3-1 lead.  The Blugolds battled back as Matuszak scored her second goal at 59:27 to get Eau Claire back to within one goal at 3-2.  Megan Larsen (Fr.-Appleton, WI/East) notched her first career goal at the 82:53 mark to tie the game at 3-3.

Neither team was able to score in overtime.  Bethel fired one shot in the first overtime and were held without a shot in the second overtime.  Eau Claire took two shots in the second overtime but was unable to score.

The Blugolds will play their first home game this Saturday when they face the College of St. Benedict at the Bollinger Fields starting at 2 p.m.
