LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Holding a 1-0 lead at half time, the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team allowed two second half goals as the Blugolds fell to UW-La Crosse 2-1 here today at Veterans Field.
The Blugolds fall to 2-5-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in the WIAC while the Eagles improve to 3-2-3 and 1-0-1 in conference play.
Forward Hannah Schweitzer (Fr.-Rice Lake, WI) scored her first career goal at 40:36 assisted by midfielder Carolyn Payne (Fr.-Waukesha, WI/West) giving Eau Claire a 1-0 halftime lead.
La Crosse scored an early second goal at 46:27 to tie the game at 1-1. The Eagles scored the go-ahead goal at 71:46 giving La Crosse the 2-1 win.
Eau Claire outshot La Crosse 19-12. The Blugolds were called for 17 penalties compared to eight for the Eagles. La Crosse had an 8-4 advantage on corner kicks.
Goalie Sammie Lefaive (Fr.-Coon Rapids, MN) saved three shots and now has a season record of 2-5-0.
The Blugolds will end their four-game road trip on Wednesday, October 1 when they head to UW-Superior. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
