Dennehy’s Three Goals Get Blugolds over Gusties

EAU CLAIRE, WI (Blugold.com) – Forward Tara Dennehy (Jr.-Eugene, OR/Churchill) erupted for three goals as the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team won their second consecutive game defeating Gustavus Adolphus College 4-1 here today at the Bollinger Fields.

Dennehy scored her first goal at 21:43 assisted by Lizzi Hanke (Fr.-Waupaca, WI) to give Eau Claire a 1-0 lead.  Less than two minutes later Dennehy struck again, this time scoring her second goal at 23:11 assisted by Lauren Lenz (Fr.-St. Germain, WI/Northland Pines) extending the lead to 2-0.  Gustavus scored a penalty kick at 29:31 to cut the lead to 2-1.

The second half started very similar to the first half as Dennehy completed the hat trick by scoring her third goal at 61:35 assisted by Megan Hanson (Jr.-Verona, WI) giving the Blugolds a 3-1 lead.   Fallon Peplinski (So.-Appleton, WI/Xavier) scored her first goal of the season at 77:40 assisted by Sami Matuszak (Fr.-Green Bay, WI/Preble) securing the 4-1 Blugold victory.

Goalie Sammie Lefaive (Fr.-Coon Rapids, MN) recorded her second consecutive victory saving nine shots. Lefaive is now 2-1-0 on the season.

Eau Claire improves their overall record to 2-2-1 while Gustavus falls to 0-3-1.  The Blugolds have outscored their opponents 6-2 during their two-game winning streak.

Up next the Blugolds will conclude their four-game homestand when they host Wartburg College of Waverly, Iowa on Wednesday, September 17.  Action is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
