ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team held a 1-0 halftime lead but St. Thomas scored the tying goal in the second half as the Blugolds tied the Tommies 1-1 here today at South Field.
Eau Claire is now 4-9-2 on the season and 2-3-0 in the WIAC while St.Thomas has an overall record of 7-6-2 and 5-3-0 in the MIAC. It was the first tie between both teams since a 0-0 game played at St. Thomas on October 26, 2008.
Forward Caroline Henderson (Jr.-Duluth, MN/East) scored an unassisted goal at 22:31 giving the Blugolds a 1-0 lead. It was the third goal of the season for Henderson, who has scored a goal in two of the last three games for the Blugolds.
St. Thomas tied the game at 1-1 when Morgan McConachie scored at 66:27. The game would continue without another goal through both overtimes as both teams recorded their second tie of the season.
Eau Claire was outshot by the St. Thomas 14-6. The Tommies held a 9-3 advantage on corner kicks. St. Thomas was whistled for nine fouls compared to four for Eau Claire.
Goalie Rachel Griffiths (So.-Waunakee, WI) played all 110:00 minutes saving four shots on goal. Her season record now stands at 1-3-1.
The Blugolds return to WIAC play this Saturday, October 25 when they travel to UW-Platteville to take on the Pioneers. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m.
