Four Blugold Soccer Players Claim All-WIAC Honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Four UW-Eau Claire soccer players have been named to the 2011 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team, announced today.

Forwards Paige LeGate (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) and Rachel Nerison (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.), along with defenders Brittany Burant (Sr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Alyssa Walker (Sr.-Madison, Wis./West) were selected to the team of 22 players from around the league.

LeGate led the Blugolds this season with 17 points coming from a team-high seven goals and three assists. She scored a team-best four game-winning goals, a mark that tied for third best in the conference, and accumulated 33 shots on the year.

Nerison, who was also named the conference's Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete, tied for third on the team with 13 points and six goals. She had one assist this season and one game-winning goal. Nerison was also named to the All-Conference team in 2010.

Burant and Walker helped the Blugolds hold opponents to just 164 shots and 22 goals, while recording eight shutouts on the season, a mark that ranked second in the WIAC. Burant finished the season with five goals and three assists for 13 points, tying for third on the team.

Additionally, Abby Beinlich (So.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. Athletes receiving this honor are recognized for their superior display of sportsmanship throughout the season.
