Soccer Rolls to Fifth-Straight Victory

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire soccer team extended its win streak to five with a 2-0 shutout victory today over UW-River Falls at Bollinger Fields.

The Blugolds wasted no time in taking control of the game. Less than three minutes into the competition, Paige LeGate (So.- Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port), assisted by Shyla Gilbertson (Jr.- Waunakee, Wis.), punched in a goal for an early Eau Claire lead. Katie Richter (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./West), with help from Hannah Rademacher (So.-Fond du Lac, Wis.), made it a 2-0 game with another first-period score at the 36:34 mark.

Neither team managed a score in the second half, handing the Blugolds their third shutout in as many games. The Blugolds recorded 10 shots to the Falcons' six, with Richter accounting for four of Eau Claire's total. Nina Behrenbrinker (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) tended the Blugold net and recorded all three saves, including a final attempt by River Falls with less than a minute on the clock.

Eau Claire is now 9-3-1 on the year and 3-2 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Falcons drop to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in conference competition.

The Blugolds will return to Bollinger Fields tomorrow afternoon for a match against Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.). Competition is set for 2 p.m.
