Two Blugold Soccer Players Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Two UW-Eau Claire women's soccer players have been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District Six first team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Named to the Division III first team, which consisted of 11 players, were forward Rachel Nerison (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) and defender Alyssa Walker (Sr.-Madison, Wis./West).

Nerison is a nursing major with a 3.92 grade point average. She tied for second on the team this season with 13 points and scored six goals, playing 16 of the Blugolds' 20 games. In the WIAC, she ranked eighth averaging 0.38 goals per game. A season ago, Nerison was named to CoSIDA's Academic All-District second team.

Walker is a biology major with a Spanish and chemistry minor and has a 3.98 GPA. Playing in 18 games, she helped the Blugolds hold opponents to just 164 shots and 22 goals. The Blugolds put up 271 shots and 32 goals. Eau Claire ranked second in the WIAC in shutouts this season as they recorded eight. Walker previously received CoSIDA Academic All-District second team honors in 2009.

Because of their first team selections, they both advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be named later this month.
