Soccer Falls at Ninth-Ranked Wartburg 3-1

WAVERLY, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – While the game was tied 1-1 at halftime, ninth-ranked Wartburg College (Iowa) scored twice in the second half to hand the UW-Eau Claire soccer team a loss today.

The Blugolds, who are now 0-4 all-time against the Knights, drop to 9-5-3 on the season while Wartburg improves to 14-1-2.

Wartburg struck first at 19:23 but the Blugolds responded eight minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. Allie Stone (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona Area) scored the goal on an assist from Emily Kaufmann (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame).

But the Knights scored twice in the second half to help win their fourth straight game. They scored goals at 62:39 and 71:02.

While Wartburg led the shot total 16-7, six of the Blugolds' shots were on-goal while Wartburg only put five on-goal. Nina Behrenbrinker (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) played all 90 minutes in-goal for Eau Claire and finished with two saves.

The Blugolds will wrap up the regular season this week with two conference matches on the road. They will be at UW-Stout on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game and will follow with a game at UW-Whitewater on Saturday at 5 p.m.
