Soccer Falls 2-1 at UW-Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Despite scoring the first goal, the UW-Eau Claire soccer team could not hold on and fell 2-1 at UW-Stevens Point today.

Katie Richter (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./West) scored the game's opening goal with an assist from Sam Gilbert (Jr.-Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) off a corner kick at 23:04.

But a Stevens Point goal three minutes later tied the game at 1-1 and the score remained tied at halftime. The Pointers then found the back of the net again at 51:33 to take a 2-1 lead, and they wouldn't relinquish it the rest of the way.

Nina Behrenbrinker (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) played all 90 minutes in-goal and made five saves while allowing two goals.

Stevens Point outshot the Blugolds 15-9, just the second time this season the Blugolds have been outshot.

The Blugolds fall to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Stevens Point improves to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in the conference.

Next up, the Blugolds will travel to Northfield, Minn. to take on St. Olaf College. Action is set to get underway at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
