Soccer Falls at Nationally-Ranked Wheaton College

WHEATON, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – One day after opening the season with a shutout win, the UW-Eau Claire soccer team was shutout in a 3-0 loss to seventh-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) today.

In a match that was delayed by lightening, the Blugolds put up 10 shots but none found the back of the net. Wheaton finished with 15 shots, six of them on-goal.

Wheaton got on the board at 12:13 with a goal from Sarah Guidera but minutes later, the teams were sent to the locker rooms for a lightening delay.

The teams resumed play nearly an hour and 15 minutes later but Wheaton didn't lose any momentum as they scored minutes later to take a two-goal lead. The Thunder added the final goal with just 13 minutes left in regulation.

Nina Behrenbrinker (So.-St. Paul, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) played the entire game at goalkeeper and finished with three saves.

The Blugolds fall to 0-10-2 all-time against Wheaton in a series dating back to 1995.

Eau Claire will be back in action next Friday when the team travels to St. Joseph, Minn. to face St. Benedict. Action will get underway at 5 p.m.
