EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Two UW-Eau Claire Athletics teams were in action today, men's basketball competing at home against UW-Oshkosh and women's basketball playing at UW-Oshkosh.
Men's Basketball
UW-Oshkosh 65, UW-Eau Claire 48
In a game where the men's basketball team never led, the UW-Oshkosh Titans were able to defeat the Blugolds 65-48 on Ken Anderson Court in Zorn Arena tonight. The score was tied just once, one minute into the game (2-2), but the Titans led the rest of the way. The Titans led by 10 at halftime (34-24) and the Blugolds were unable to get the deficit back to single digits the rest of the night. Oshkosh led by as many as 18 points, midway through the second half. Jacob Kohner led the Blugolds in scoring with 14 points.
Women's Basketball
UW-Oshkosh 65, UW-Eau Claire 55
While the women's basketball team found itself down by just two points in the second half, the 17th-ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans were able to hang on to defeat the Blugolds 65-55 at the Kolf Sports Center tonight. With a 14-point lead at halftime, the Titans had trouble scoring for the first five minutes of the second half. The Blugolds used a 12-0 run during the first five minutes to get back to within two points (35-33), but that was as close as they would get. During the next six minutes, the Blugolds didn't score any points while Oshkosh went on a 12-0 run to get back up by 14. Eau Claire got as close as seven points after that, the last time with two minutes remaining. Two Blugolds reached double figures in scoring with Teenie Lichtfuss leading the way with 15 points.
