Blugolds Honored at 1st Annual Senior Banquet

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire Athletics seniors were honored at the 1st Annual Blugold Athletics Senior Banquet last Wednesday in Davies Center.

Nearly 150 student-athletes, coaches, administrators and support personnel were in attendance at the event, which was sponsored by Stump’s Olives. Dr. Tyler Glaser, co-owner of Stump's, spoke at the banquet.

At the banquet, senior student-athletes and athletic training students were presented with a memento and seven Blugolds earned six different awards.

Earning the Top Senior Athlete Awards were men’s swimmer Alex Card (Sr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) and gymnast Michaela McCamey-Metropulos (Sr.-Dayton, Ohio). The award, which was determined based on a vote by athletic department staff, honored individuals with high athletic achievements.

Three Blugolds earned the Senior Scholar Awards, which was presented to individuals who held the highest cumulative GPA. Men’s track member Eric Pronschinske (Sr.-Arcadia, Wis.), who holds a 3.91 GPA, was recognized for the men, while volleyball player Kelly Schuh (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) and women’s hockey player Nikki Kothenbeutel (Sr.-Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice), who tied with a 3.98 GPA, were recognized for the women.

The Senior Blugold Awards were presented to men’s hockey player David Donnellan (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and women’s cross country/track & field member Jami Riley (Sr.-Fairmont, Minn.). The award honors individuals who embody the Blugold spirit - excellence in the classroom, on the field and in the community.
