Women's Tennis Locks Up 2nd Seed With Home Sweep Of Titans

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team hosted their final regular season Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match of the year on Wednesday against UW-Oshkosh. With the weather forcing the teams to play indoors at Ade Olson Gymnasium, the Blugolds wouldn't lose a step on their way to a 9-0 win.  

Results

The victory propelled Eau Claire to an overall record of 9-4 and 5-1 in the WIAC.

Lindsey Henderson (Jr. - Prior Lake, MN) and Elaine Franta (So. - White Bear Lake, MN) led the way for the Blugolds with wins at doubles and singles. The pair defeated Michelle Spicer (UWO) and Maddie Toboyek (UWO) 8-3 duing No. 1 doubles play. Franta then won at the No. 1 singles spot 6-2, 6-4 and Henderson won 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles spot.

Morgan Nelson (Fr. – Beaver Dam, WI) had another impressive afternoon sweeping the competition with partner Natalie Girard (Jr. - Kenosha, WI/St.Joseph), 8-0. Nelson also won her singles match at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-0.

The Blugolds locked up the 2nd seed in the WIAC and will compete in the 2021 Women's Tennis WIAC Championship this weekend. They will take on UW-Oshkosh in the first round on Saturday, April 24th. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
