Blugolds Win On The Road And At Home To Begin Season

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's tennis teams started their 2021 season and picked up a combined three wins. On Friday, the men traveled to Madison, WI and beat Carthage College 3-0. On Saturday, both teams hosted UW-Superior at the John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center. The women won 9-0 and the men won 8-1.

On Friday, the men won two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles in the 6-3 decision. Grant Mauthe (Sr. - Neenah, WI) secured a victory at the No. 1 singles spot and the No. 2 doubles spot for his first two wins on the year. Hunter Roseth (So. - Lakeville, MN/South) also took home victories in his matches. Roseth won at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles to help propel the Blugolds over Carthage. 

On Saturday, Roseth would pick up his third win of the season with a 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles. Demetri Bush (So. - Edina, MN/Duluth Marshall) would win at No. 3 doubles for his second win of the year.

The women would win in all their games, only dropping a total of six sets in singles and three sets in doubles. Emily Cooper (Sr. - White Bear Lake, MN/Mahtomedi) would pick up two dominate wins on the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and a 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles.

The men are 2-0 and the women are 1-0 entering into the second week of their schedule. The women will head to Winona, MN on Saturday, March 6th, while the men will have the week off.
