Men's and Women's Tennis Take Down Vikings

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's tennis were back on the road on Sautrday. The Blugolds would take on the Vikings from Augustana (IL) at the Cherokee Country Club Tennis Courts. After both teams swept the doubles' matches, the women would hang on for a 5-4 win, and the men would stay dominate in their 7-2 victory.

For the women, Alexa Brooks (Jr. - Beaver Dam, WI) and Emily Cooper (Sr. - White Bear Lake, MN/Mahtomedi) would start things off with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Annie Timm (Aug.) and Lily Schoeck (Aug.). Brooks and Cooper are now undefeated on the year with three victories in all three matches. The singles matches would be a closer battle for both teams after Cooper and Brooks both dropped their sets against Timm and Schoeck at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Elaine Franta (So. - White Bear Lake, MN) would get the Blugolds back in position with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Michaela Magee (Aug.) at No. 3 singles. To close things out, Leah Olsen (Fr. - Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) would capture her first win of the season over Kalli Majewski (Aug.) for the winning for Eau Claire's fifth and final point to secure the win. 

The women are now 3-0 as a team on the season. 

With a three match sweep at doubles for the men, the No. 3 through No. 6 singles would take care of business for the team's third win of the year. Demetri Bush (So. - Edina, MN/Duluth Marshall) would defeat Leonardo Panasso (Aug.) 6-4, 6-2 for his second single's win of the year. RJ Griffiths (Fr. - Rogers, MN) and John Foley (So. - Wayzata, MN) would continue the Blugold dominance with wins of their own. Kole Kolinski (Jr. - Kewaunee, WI/Ashwaubenon) earned his third win of the season at No. 6, 6-1, 6-1. 

Coach Biernat's squads will be back in action next week. The women's team will take on Gustavus on Friday, March 26th and Luther College on Saturday, March 27th. The men will also travel on Saturday, March 27th to take on Luther College. All matchups will see the Blugolds on the road.
